Who this covers
This policy applies to Nighthawk Tube on both platforms — the iOS app (bundle identifier io.river.nighthawk) and the Android app (package io.river.nighthawk) — published by River. Contact: jeff@river.io. Where the two differ, the difference is called out below; there is exactly one, and it is the store's billing library.
Information we collect
None. Nighthawk Tube does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information. Specifically, the app:
- has no user accounts and asks for no name, email, or login;
- has no server or cloud backend of its own, and makes no network requests of its own.
On Android, Google's Play Billing library merges the
INTERNETandACCESS_NETWORK_STATEpermissions into the installed app and reaches Google's servers to process a purchase; nothing else in the app uses the network, on either platform; - includes no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs;
- does not use the microphone, camera, contacts, photos, or location, and never reads any health data; it only outputs audio through your device's speakers or headphones (with one optional exception noted under Apple Health below);
- does not employ Apple's App Tracking Transparency, because it tracks nothing.
What stays on your device
The app saves a small amount of information locally, on your device only, and never sends it anywhere:
- Your unlock status, a single flag recording whether you've purchased Pro, so the app remembers it between launches;
- Your last knob and timer settings, where applicable, so the instrument opens the way you left it.
This data lives in the app's private storage and is removed if you delete the app.
Health logging (optional)
If you start a session timer, Nighthawk Tube can record the completed minutes to Apple Health as a Mindful Minutes entry, but only after you explicitly grant permission when the app asks. This is strictly write-only: the app logs finished sessions and never reads anything from your Health data. Those entries live in Apple's Health app under your own control, are never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can decline the prompt, or revoke access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Health, and the instrument works exactly the same without it.
On Android, the same applies through Health Connect: a completed session can be written as a mindfulness record, only after you grant the optional permission, which the app asks for when you press START and never at launch. The permission is write-only — there is deliberately no matching read permission, because the app has no reason to look at your health data. A session you cancel is never recorded; only one that runs to the end. Those records live in Health Connect on your device, under your control, and are never transmitted to us. You can revoke access at any time in Health Connect's app permissions.
Purchases
Nighthawk Tube offers one optional, non-consumable in-app purchase, Pro ($2.99), which unlocks the full session timer and the preset library. Payments are handled entirely by the store — Apple through the App Store and StoreKit on iOS, Google through Play Billing on Android. We never see or receive your payment details, card number, or Apple Account information. Apple's handling of that transaction is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy respectively. To restore a previous purchase, the app asks Apple to confirm your entitlement, again with no personal data passing to us.
Children
Nighthawk Tube is safe for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children. It contains no user-generated content, messaging, or external links to unmoderated spaces.
Data sharing & sale
Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing to share, sell, rent, or disclose to anyone, for any purpose, ever.
Your rights
Regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA grant rights to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to request. Any settings the app stores locally are fully under your control and are erased by deleting the app.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above revised. Material changes would be noted in the app's release notes.
