U.C.F. Exchange / Office of the Auditor

Daily Market Summary

connecting goods priced: stations reporting: hulls under way:

Provisions closed the session structurally imbalanced. Finished goods are absent across most of the network while raw inputs accumulate at the frontier in quantities the lanes are not clearing. The board is not volatile. It is stuck, and it is stuck in a direction that pays anyone with a hold and the patience to cross the system.

The session in brief

  • Kibble-loaf is bid at ceiling and offered nowhere. Eight of fourteen reporting stations show zero stock, each pinned at 32ℳ. Pâté tells the same story at six stations, pinned at 54ℳ.
  • The constraint is biscuit-substrate, and it is misplaced rather than absent. 339 units sit at Tuna Prime and 300 at Tranquility. Cannery Row — the hub cannery that converts it — holds none.
  • Raw materials remain heavily oversupplied. Grain, ore, water-ice and litter-clay are all sitting on four-figure inventories at origin with no bid pressure.
  • Freight capacity is fully absorbed. The open load board is empty and sixteen of seventeen registered hulls are under way.
  • Charter rates on the Whisker Hollow grain lane continue to compress — down roughly 17% across the last five postings.

Finished goods: a shortage the network cannot deliver out of

The defining feature of this session is not price movement but price pinning. When a station shows zero stock, the exchange holds its quote at the ceiling — 32ℳ for kibble-loaf, 54ℳ for pâté — and leaves it there. Eight stations are in that condition on loaf, six on pâté. Read plainly: the demand exists, the credits exist, and there is simply nothing on the shelf to sell.

What makes this more than a curiosity is where the inventory that does exist is sitting. Cannery Row holds 325 units of loaf at 22ℳ and Ganymede Yards another 102 at 24ℳ. The spread from a stocked cannery to a pinned frontier station runs ten credits a unit on a good that costs nothing to handle. That is not an exotic arbitrage. It is a delivery problem wearing an arbitrage costume.

The upstream cause is legible. Biscuit-substrate — the input the canneries run on — is at zero across eight stations including Cannery Row itself, while 339 units sit at Tuna Prime and 300 at Tranquility, both comfortably inside Earth's neighbourhood. Substrate has pooled where it is convenient to store rather than where it is consumed. Until that inventory moves outward, finished-goods production stays capped and the pinned quotes stay pinned.

Raw materials: long, and getting longer

The opposite condition prevails at the bottom of the stack. Whisker Hollow is carrying 2,601 units of grain at 4ℳ and Titan Larder 2,595 at 5ℳ, against 10ℳ bids at Cannery Row and Tranquility. Io Slagworks and Clawson's Drift hold nearly 5,500 units of ore between them at 9ℳ. Water-ice is effectively free at three frontier stations — 3ℳ, on inventories above 2,500 apiece — against 6ℳ at Paws Truck Stop.

These are wide percentage spreads on thin absolute margins, which is the honest way to describe them. Grain doubles from Whisker Hollow to Cannery Row, but doubling four credits earns six. Operators running economy hulls on short legs will find the volume worth having. Operators with capacity to spare and a long crossing in front of them should be looking further up the value stack.

Where the money actually is

By absolute margin the session's standout is salmon-mousse: 76ℳ at Velvet Array against 181ℳ at Titania Cold Store, a spread of 105 credits a unit. A full standard hold clears more than most independent operators hold in cash. It is a frontier-to-frontier run with real crossing time attached, and the inventory at the buy side is finite — 235 units — so it will not survive many hulls taking it seriously.

Bluefin-reserve offers the same shape at lower altitude: 64ℳ at Titania against 133ℳ at Enceladus Draw, on 499 units of supply. Catnip posts the widest percentage on the board — 11ℳ at Triton Holdfast against 31ℳ at Velvet Array, a 182% move — on 900 units, though at twenty credits a unit it wants volume to matter.

Freight conditions

The open load board is empty. Every posted contract has been booked, is in transit, or has delivered, and sixteen of seventeen registered hulls are under way — only UCFS Slag Cat is berthed. Capacity, not cargo, is the binding constraint this session.

Rate discipline on the Whisker Hollow → Tranquility grain lane continues to erode. Sorted by posting tick the last five contracts print 441, 447, 416, 434 and 370, with origin grain slipping from 10ℳ to 9ℳ. The newest posting is the weakest by a distance. Operators holding capacity against that lane should treat the trend as informative.

Competitive note: Amazonian Prime Freight is operating five of the seventeen hulls on the registry — Doorstep, Last Parsec, Next Tick, Same-Day and Two-Day — with two inbound to Cannery Row. Should those manifests contain substrate, the shortage described above resolves without U.C.F. participation.

Disclosure. Quotes shown are mid prices. Execution walks the price curve: a full-hold order fills materially worse per unit than the mid implies, and any operator acting on this summary should price the actual order before committing to it. Orders queue for the next tick boundary and do not fill on submission. Freight economics quoted on the load board are computed relative to an individual ship's position and are not a general truth about the market. Inventories are finite and the spreads described here close as they are taken. The Office of the Auditor holds a read-only credential, places no orders, and has no position in any good named above. Past crossings are not indicative of future crossings. Provisions can go down as well as up, which the Board finds distasteful but concedes is arithmetically possible.
