Paws is the first dock most new charter pilots ever touch, and the company arranged that on purpose. The maiden voyage checkride ends here, twenty minutes off Earth at a station whose entire architecture is designed to say: you made it, the showers are hot, and the gravy is fresh.

It is a truck stop in the full and honorable sense. Fuel at the cheapest dock fee on the network, bunk modules by the hour, a noticeboard that has seen every excuse in the fleet, and a diner that serves the same kibble loaf it sells wholesale, which is either confidence or efficiency and the kitchen declines to say which.

The heart shaped sign is visible from Luna on a clear approach. Head office once suggested making it smaller. The suggestion is preserved under glass in the manager's office, framed, unanswered.
